"ATDC Ruiru offers Agricultural Engineering Support Services to SMEs in Mechanization, Agro processing and Value Addition, project implementation under the area of jurisdiction as well as advisory services to the Ministry in the mandate area. Amongst the mandate areas is the city of Nairobi and Kiambu County which have highest economic development in the Country. The major focus is in promoting value addition through incubation of SMEs at our common manufacturing facilities (CMF) that include solar dryer, incubation center, food laboratory and workshop. We take pride in our capacity to carry out various food analyses in the enhancement of quality control/quality assurance of food products for instance aflatoxin test. Sweet potatoes, cassava, Irish potatoes, banana, fruits, spices, vegetables, tomatoes, milk, cereals are most grown crops in the region." Eng. Amos Kiptanui

The station has played a major role in product
development for SMEs giving rise to successful incubation of 40 startup
businesses in; b
anana value addition (ripening, chopping, solar
drying, milling into flour and packaging of green banana); root crop and tubers
processing such as cassava, arrow root, sweet potato, Irish potato and carrot into
crisps and flour; processing of tomato, onion, mango, pawpaw, ginger, pumpkin
and chilly into jam, chutney, ketchup and sauce. The station designed and
supervised the construction of 10 solar dryers and 2 fruit ripening chambers in
2021/2022 financial year.
