Capacity building on agricultural engineering technologies relevant to the value chains of the region is carried out. The active value chains are maize, groundnut, soya beans, palm oil, sweet potatoes and dairy farming. Oil Palm digester, peanut butter milling machine, conservation agriculture equipment and greenhouse effect solar / hybrid dryers are some of the station innovations." Cheboi Pius Kipchumba

Priority Value Chains

The station is currently promoting the maize value chain in line with Agriculture Sector Transformation and Growth Strategy (ASTGS), 2019-2029. The major focus is on production, storage and value addition. In production, emphasis is on Conservation Agriculture (CA) technology while in storage, the centre is promoting low-cost cereal storage bins- metal silos and hermetic bags. Subsequently, Small Enterprises (SMEs) are trained on maize value addition with special focus on livestock feed formulation and flour fortification. The station in collaboration with GIZ Pro Soil Project and KALRO Alupe-Busia is in the process of developing Conservation Agriculture training manual to equip and train on CA tools and equipment.
